About Julian

In Brief:

Rabbi Yedidya (Julian) Sinclair is a writer and a leader of the Jewish environmental movement living in Jerusalem. In his spare time he is also a tour guide and scholar of Jewish Mysticism. Educated at Oxford and Harvard Universities and traditional yeshivot, his major research interests include imagination and creativity in Jewish Mysticism, and religious-secular dialogue.

Julian is an inspirational lecturer who has taught at scores of venues in the UK, United States, Canada and Israel.

His dynamic and original walking tours have been featured in the London Jewish Chronicle and the New York Jewish Week.

Julian's first book "Let's Schmooze" is published by Continuum Books, June 2007.

He currently serves as Director of Education for Jewish Climate Initiative and as Senior Rabbinical Scholar for Hazon.

Julian holds a BA (First Class Honours) in Philosophy Politics and Economics, from Oxford, and an MPA from Harvard. He has Orthodox rabbinic ordination and studied in the Mandel Jerusalem Fellows programme . From 1999-2003 he was Jewish Chaplain at Cambridge University, where he co-founded the CUlanu Jewish Student Centre, and also taught in the Divinity School. He is completing his Phd on the thought of the twentieth century mystic, Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook. Julian is Co-founder and Director of Research for Tikun Olam: Jewish Initiative on Climate Change..

Julian has taught on more than twenty five college campuses around the world, including Oxford, Cambridge, Columbia, Princeton, Harvard, NYU, University of Chicago and McGill. He has lectured at leading synagogues in Britain and the US, and at adult education programmes including Pardes, Melitz, Limmud and the London School of Jewish Studies.

Julian has given his inspirational walking tours to many hundreds of participants, from dozens of private and organized groups across the religious spectrum, including Birthright Educators, Van Leer Institute Ecumenical Summer School, Bnai Akiva International, Reform Synagogue Youth Leadership Program, Nishmat, Pardes, the Conservative Yeshiva, New York Jewish Federation, Hale Manchester Jewish Community, Midreshet Harovah, the Orthodox Union Israel Centre, The Adam Science Foundation Young Leadership Fellowship, Reishit Yerushalayim and Beit Harav.

Julian lives in Jerusalem with his wife, Yaffa and their four children
